Debbie Adams, principal

Debbie graduated with honours from the Ontario College of Art & Design (OCAD) in 1983. Following employment with two top Toronto design firms, Burton Kramer Associates and Spencer Francey Peters, she established the partnership of Adams/Bhandari in 1987 and her own firm, Adams + Associates Design Consultants (A+a) Inc in 1988. She has acted as principal, creative director and designer at A+a for over 20 years, overseeing and creating award-winning design communications for a full spectrum of clients.

She is a professor of Graphic Design at the Ontario College of Art & Design (OCAD) in Toronto and has taught there since 1994. Previously, she taught Graphic Design at Sheridan College in Oakville, from 1989 to 1994. She served on the Board of Directors of the Graphic Designers of Canada (GDC), Ontario Chapter, from 1991 to 1995. She was elected an academician of the Royal Canadian Academy of Arts (RCA) in 2000. She presently serves on the Board of Directors of OCAD. She is a registered member of the Registered Graphic Designers of Ontario (RGD) Society and a member of the Society for Environmental Graphic Design (SEGD).

Debbie has designed over 30 postage stamps for Canada Post Corporation, including a series of four stamps for Expo ’86 in Vancouver, B.C., a pair of stamps—one featuring a hologram—commemorating Canada’s achievements in space, and series of four stamps on Gardens, Migratory Species and Urban Transit. She has also designed coins for the Royal Canadian Mint.
